Presenting for your personal collection a beautiful miniature Yoga art.
This rare painting invites wonder at India’s extraordinary artistic heritage and with it you will feel the magic and spiritual enlightenment of Yoga. The art of Yoga constitutes a visual archive that attempts to capture one or several of its attributes, as a philosophical school, a Hindu tradition, a spiritual science and an exercise regimen.
The term yogi was portrayed in many literary works to denote the ideal subject or agent of yoga practice. In these works, the yogi was portrayed as a person broadly embodying the virtues of conventional types of yoga practice: meditating, renouncing, wandering, and seeking to find God within. This is the image most modern people have of India’s yogis: peaceful, meditative holy men, living in harmony with nature in hermitages and caves, and on mountaintops.
Yoga meditation was a means to transcend the suffering of existence. This inspired South Asian artists to often represent yogis (great sages) and kings in the act of meditation to convey their spiritual attainment. The featured art depicts this theme where King Suraghu, a Himalayan tribal chief, seeks spiritual attainment and advice from the sage Mandavya who was an enlightened yogi.
