Tres Barricas Anejo Edition #2

Tres Barricas is a small añejo label from the Campo Azul tequila portfolio, produced at NOM 1416 in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, where cooler nights and higher elevation grow sweeter, fruitier blue Weber agave than the valley floor. The name means three barrels, and that is the whole concept: an añejo built on a three-barrel maturation, American white oak that previously held Tennessee whiskey and French oak, with additional influence from Cognac and Sherry casks. Single Batch Edition #2 is the second limited bottling of the series, a 2021 release aged twelve months and bottled at 40% ABV. Production is traditional for the highlands: agave slow-cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented open-air in stainless steel with deep well water and no fibers, and double distilled in stainless pot stills with copper coils. Retailer tasting notes describe roasted agave, toasted wood, caramel, honey, peach, banana and orange on the nose, cooked agave, caramel, vanilla, sweet citrus, ripe fruit, oak and soft spice on the palate, and a lingering finish of agave, vanilla, caramel and orchard fruit. A limited-edition añejo in a heavy presentation bottle that gifts well.
