For this release, Smooth Ambler took Old Scout straight rye from Indiana and finished it in Port wine casks before bottling Batch 3 in 2021 at 103 proof.

Drinkhacker rated the Port Cask Finish Rye an A-, describing wine skins, muted dill and black pepper on the nose developing into stewed dark fruit and caramel, then an immediate syrupy pop of red fruit and caramel sauce on a silky palate that moves into dark berry jam and cinnamon, and a finish of charred barbecue smoke, cocktail cherry and berry cobbler. The Port finish rounds off the peppery MGP rye and layers on jammy fruit without turning it sweet. Originally a distillery-exclusive release, it is a hard bottle to find outside West Virginia and a treat for fans of wine-finished rye.

Buy Smooth Ambler Old Scout Port Cask Finish Batch 3 Rye Whiskey online with fast shipping right to your door.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0756/0475/4685/files/smooth-ambler-old-scout-port-cask-finish-batch-3-rye-whiskey_1.jpg?v=1792719648
