Mucha Liga Añejo Tequila

Mucha Liga is a Jalisco tequila brand built around lucha libre, Mexico's masked wrestling tradition, and each expression comes in a handmade bottle sculpted as a luchador's head in a mask, with each named for a member of the league. The Añejo is Invicto, the undefeated one, in a white mask, joining Bravo, the unaged blanco in blue, and Canibal, the reposado in red. The tequila inside is 100% blue Weber agave grown in the La Ciénega region of Jalisco and made at the distillery registered as NOM 1610. Production is traditional: the agave is slow-cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks with the juice alone, without the fibers, and distilled in stainless steel pot stills fitted with copper coils. For the Añejo, the tequila then spends 18 months in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, comfortably past the one-year minimum for the category, which gives it the deep ochre color the brand describes. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750ml bottle. The mask makes it a natural gift or bar-shelf conversation piece, and the tequila is best poured neat or over a single large cube.
