Kilkerran 16 Year Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Kilkerran 16 Year Old is the oldest core release from Glengyle, the Campbeltown distillery resurrected in 2004 by Hedley Wright of J&A Mitchell, the family owners of Springbank, after roughly eighty years of dormancy. Like its sibling, it handles all production in-house from malting to bottling, with lightly peated barley and annual output under 100,000 liters, which keeps every Kilkerran in short supply.

Matured in roughly sixty percent sherry, thirty-five percent bourbon and five percent rum casks and bottled at 92 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, the 16 Year is gentle and silky: citrus and stone fruit on the nose with a subtle struck-match peat and briny, pastoral notes, then a light-bodied palate of tropical fruit, barley sugar, peach, candied citrus, honeycomb and licorice, finishing with charcoal smoke, dried thyme, salted almond and lemon peel. Drinkhacker graded it an A. A Campbeltown treasure.
