Douglas Laing, the Glasgow independent bottler founded in 1948, builds Big Peat from single malts across Islay, including Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and a touch of whisky from the legendary closed Port Ellen distillery.
Bottled at 105.6 proof (52.8% ABV), non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, the 2021 edition is Big Peat turned up: dense peat smoke, sea salt and bonfire ash on the nose, then a big, oily palate of smoked malt, lemon, honey and black pepper, finishing long, warming and thoroughly smoky.
